Clone a voice to narrate your audiobooks

Cloning a real person's voice without their permission can be unlawful, and it can cause real harm to the person imitated. NarrationOS is consent-gated by design: before a clone is created you confirm you have the right to use that voice, and that confirmation is recorded.

In practice this means clone your own voice, or a voice whose owner has clearly agreed. Do not clone a celebrity, a professional narrator, or an acquaintance from a recording they did not know you were going to use this way. See the disclaimers for the full position.

You provide a short voice sample, recorded in the app or imported as a file. NarrationOS builds a cloned voice from it, which can then narrate any book in your library.

Worth being clear about what this is not: no model is being trained on your voice, and nothing is uploaded for processing. The clone is derived from your sample on your own machine, and it stays there.

Clone quality is driven by the sample, so it is worth a little care. A clean, quiet recording of natural, connected speech works best. Read a couple of paragraphs at the pace you would actually want narration delivered.

Avoid background noise, music, heavy room echo, and clips where several people talk. Also avoid performing: an unusually theatrical sample produces a narrator that sounds theatrical for four hundred pages.

Some reference clips simply work better than others in ways that are hard to predict from listening to them. If a clone comes out unreliable, the most effective fix is usually to record a different sample rather than to adjust settings.

You can optionally attach reference clips for different emotional registers, so a narrator can carry the right tone across a book instead of reading tense scenes in the same even voice as calm ones.

This is optional. A single good reference sample is a perfectly reasonable place to start, and you can add emotional references later if you want more range.

Do I need consent to clone a voice?

Yes. Only clone your own voice or one you have clear permission to use. Cloning a real person's voice without their consent can be unlawful. NarrationOS requires you to confirm you hold the right to use a voice before it creates the clone, and that confirmation is recorded.

Does my voice sample get uploaded anywhere?

No. Cloning runs locally on your own machine, like the rest of the app. Your voice samples and the clones built from them stay on your PC and are not sent to us or to any third party.

Can I sell an audiobook narrated with a cloned voice?

Yes, provided the rights are yours: you need rights to the source text and to the voice. Your own voice narrating your own writing is the cleanest case. Note also that some audiobook storefronts have their own rules about AI-narrated titles, so check the platform you intend to publish on.

How long does the voice sample need to be?

A short sample is enough, and quality matters far more than length. A clean, quiet recording of a couple of paragraphs of natural speech beats a long noisy one. If the result disappoints, try re-recording rather than lengthening.
